Definition: Food court — an area within a building set apart for multiple food concessions.
Typically, a food court can be found in shopping malls, airports, and parks. The former Chapel of Hope Church in the BullStreet District will be the home to Columbia’s newest food court.
The building is currently an abandoned structure, but instead of being used as a church, it will be transformed to host food vendors.
The building is 1 of 9 that the Hughes Development Corporation has reserved in the district for upcoming projects. Plans are in the works to research the historic aspects of the property for preservation as well.
There are so many developments in the works for the BullStreet District, including the WestLawn office building, the new apartment community Bennet at BullStreet, and the two new parking garages. The former church is located nearby the former South Carolina State Hospital + Babcock building.
This is the second food hall concept that is coming soon to Columbia, following NoMa Warehouse’s new addition to the Loading Dock.
While we patiently wait for news of the groundbreaking to finish cooking, we are left wondering what vendors we’ll see come to the food court?
What food vendor do you want to see at BullStreet?
Think of all the street food, dumplings, tacos, and other delicious options.
